WELCOME TO THE WELLSHIRE YOUTH PROGRAM!
Youth at Wellshire Presbyterian Church have many opportunities to connect with God through experiences of worship, study, service, and fellowship with their peers. Sunday School, Evening Youth Groups, Summer Conferences, Confirmation, the annual Youth Mission Trip, Youth Council, Youth Sunday, Youth Choir and Vespers Band are some of the strong programs and activities that build up the faith of our youth and prepare them for a life of discipleship.
JOY (JESUS OTHERS & YOU) is Wellshire’s
Junior High Youth program for students in grades 6-8.
SHY (SENIOR HIGH YOUTH) is Wellshire’s
Senior High Youth program for students in grades 9-12.
The Youth Vespers Band
is a group of Jr. and Sr. High musicians (guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and more) that rehearses on Sundays prior to JOY and SHY evening fellowship and provides musical leadership for the Youth Worship experiences on Sunday nights.
Sunday School
is each Sunday @ 9:45 am, from September to May, in the Youth Suite. Jr. High and Sr. High meet with their own age groups.
The Annual Youth Mission Trip
is a Wellshire tradition! In June (usually the 2nd week) graduated 8th-12th graders travel together for a week of service, learning, and reflection. Past destinations have included: the Mississippi Gulf Cost, NYC, Montana, Arkansas and West Virginia. In 2007 58 youth and 12 adult sponsors build 4 complete homes in Juarez, Mexico. In 2008 we spent a week service-learning at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. In 2009 we are going to Hollywood, California to work with a Denver-Based organization: D.O.O.R.
Confirmation
is an exciting program in which students are invited to learn of God’s ways and respond. This eight-month program, beginning each September, is open to all interested Ninth-Grade students or older students who have not previously gone through the program. At Wellshire, we follow the mentor model; each student meets with an adult mentor from Wellshire for eight mentoring sessions, and all students gather for four 3-hour Saturday morning sessions with a pastor.
The Wellshire Youth Council
is a group of people committed to supporting and developing the Youth Ministries of WPC. The Youth Council, nominated by each upcoming class of seniors, is made up of parents, high-school students, and the Director of Youth and Young Adults.
