Casting the First Stone
Matthew 4: 23-25
This sermon is based on an encounter between Jesus and the scribes and Pharisees. They present an allegedly adulterous woman and ask Jesus what they should do. Jesus says wisely, “The one who is without sin cast the first stone.” Surprisingly, Jesus refuses to condemn her. This encounter illustrates the width of Jesus’ mercy and grace, but it also exposes the sins of hypocrisy and judgmental attitudes.
