Vespers Band Director/Intern
Why did you choose to become a minister?
I suppose we can’t be sure, but I’ll make a bet that Moses, while tending Jethro’s flocks, was not contriving plans for how to become the one who would speak on God’s behalf to the pharaoh, or lead Israel through the wilderness; Hosea, growing up, probably did not dream of marrying a prostitute; Mary certainly seemed surprised to be chosen as the mother of the Messiah. In a similar sense, “pastor” was never on my list of possibilities growing up, despite hearing from family or friends that I was going to be in the church, “just like my grandpa (or father)” when I grew up. Nevertheless, while in college I felt an undeniable pull to go to seminary and, as I continued to discern, a certain call toward ordained ministry.
As a recent seminary graduate I am excited to see where Christ may lead and to point others to His ongoing work of restoration.
What is your role at Wellshire?
As an intern, I will be working with the youth group and the Vespers Band, assisting in some capacities with worship leadership, and learning more about the administrative side of congregational ministry.
What is the biggest opportunity for our Wellshire community?
To be witnesses to the reality that our lives and resources are not our own, but belong to Christ.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
John 15:4-5: “Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.”
Where do you find inspiration?
Music is very inspirational for me. Listening or playing. I also find a great deal of inspiration when I read or hear stories of those great cloud of witnesses who have gone before me. Those stories embolden my faith.
What are the things that make you happiest?
I love it when the Church is gathered together for worship. It is a joyful and mysterious thing.
When you’re not at Wellshire, where are you likely to be?
Sipping a pour-over at Steam espresso bar on S. Pearl St.
